Summer Camp

The North Museum of Nature and Science has partnered with the School District of Lancaster providing, fun, hands-on summer science.

For School District of Lancaster students in Grades 1 – 5

In 2017, GSK Science in the Summer™ students at sites across the country will learn about the Science of Sports. GSK Science in the Summer™ is a free science education program that helps elementary school children “grow into science.” Through classes held in public schools other community-based organizations, the program gets kids excited about learning science with hands-on experiments. The GSK Science in the SummerTM National Program is sponsored by GSK and administered by The Franklin Institute, a global leader in science education.

The Science of Sports content invites children to explore the role of science, technology, engineering, and math in sports. Through active, hands-on learning, students discover that athletes need to be physically fit, mentally fit, and properly equipped to excel. The Science of Sports program shows them that science is another way to get in the game!Students will:

  • Apply scientific strategies to an exploration of physical fitness, specifically balance and stability
  • Apply scientific strategies to an exploration of physical fitness, specifically balance and stability
  • Explore how the food they eat contributes to their fitness
  • Examine the aspects of physical activity that are controlled by the brain, such as reaction time and hand-eye coordination
  • Make their own bouncy balls
  • Discover the science careers that help professional athletes
