The Gallery at the North Museum of Nature and Science asked artists how can a change of state, a modification, or a metamorphosis challenge our emotional or symbolic perception of reality or the self? What can this transformation reveal? 30 regional artists working in a variety of materials and styles have lent their works to this show to explore transformation and how it plays in their studio practice.
Transformational art expands a viewer’s understanding of the world around them. It can turn materials into images, images into shapes, or a single moment into an infinity that exists outside of the linear experience of time. This change might be made possible by the chosen materials or process used to create the work. The surrealist painter Rene Magritte wondered about the human instinct for curiosity: “Everything we see hides another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what we see.”
Join us on March 7th for the reopening of our Art Gallery on the second floor of the museum. Explore the gallery from 6-8 pm and at 6:30 pm, featured artist Evan Kitson, will give a brief talk on his work.
