STEM Career Fair
The STEM Career Fair program is designed to introduce 5th to 8th grade students to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) careers. It takes place in local elementary/middle schools where presenters talk to groups of students about their job experiences.
The visitors explain how they use science and/or technology in their everyday work life. The students enjoy learning about different STEM careers by seeing equipment or a tool (i.e. blueprints, stethoscope, or example on a laptop etc.). Each presenter talks to about four groups of students and the entire program lasts 1.5 hours.
The program is very informal, fun, and rewarding and also meets the requirements of Chapter 339 from the PA Department of Education. Following the Fair, students are provided with a STEM Career Fair Certificate of Completion.
During the 2017-2018 school year, the North Museum provided this program to more than 4000 students in 40+ schools and 250 volunteer presenters from 72 employers.
