Preschool Programs

Little Explorer and Me

Little Explorer and Me is our program for preschool aged children and their caretakers. Come join us the last Wednesday of every month for an exciting morning of activities for your Little Explorer! Learn about science and build your child’s curiosity, skills, and knowledge through play. Each activity is designed to be something caretakers can easily replicate at home using mostly everyday materials.  Caretakers are welcome to enjoy a cup of coffee, chat with other caretakers and allow their children’s imaginations to run wild. Each month introduces a new topic for your Little Explorer to explore!

New topic every month! As part of our Early Childhood Initiative, the Little Explorer & Me program is a place for local parents and caregivers to exchange tips and information in an informal setting. The last Wednesday of each month, we provide the venue, the coffee, and introduce a topic like The Importance of Play or The Sound of Music. Children enjoy specially selected items that complement the theme while parents receive resources and get to know each other. Discover how Duck, Duck, Goose and play dough can advance your child’s math and reading skills. Introduce the colors of the rainbow with prisms and butterflies from our collections.

STEM Storytime

STEM Storytime pairs the concepts and audience of Little Explorer and Me with a live story presentation from a member of the museum’s education team. This program provides preschoolers with new science and nature based concepts and vocabulary using the familiar tools of storytime and hands on activities to further enhance new learning opportunities.

This is a virtual program that premieres on our Facebook page. Past stories and free downloadable activities can be viewed here

Preschool Picassos

Does your Preschooler love art? Our newest early childhood program focuses on the connection between science and the visual arts. Preschool Picassos will provide visitors with unique art experiences as we teach various children various techniques and utilize both . As children experiment and explore, they will not only explore scientific theory, but create some unique works of art along the way!
