Science and Engineering Fair
Hello STEM Community!
Your interest in being a judge at the North Museum Science and Engineering Fair is absolutely essential to our aspiring STEMologistis. Without your commitment to STEM students, NMSEF would not happen – THANK YOU!
Below is a “Judges Registration” Google form. This is the first step in being a judge for NMSEF. In this form we will gather your demographic information, if you are a “Volunteer” or are representing an institution or company at NMSEF. Each category has a “Lead Judge”. These individuals help coordinate the other judges in your category and at the end of the day, help select our champion level projects. The questionnaire will ask if you have been or would like to be a Lead Judge (if needed). Finally, we will ask you for your category preference. Please select as many categories as possible because fixability is crucial with the “moving target” that is student participation in categories each year.
To help prepare you for NMSEF, below you will find copies of the “Judges Meeting Agenda” which is traditionally held mid-February. To accommodate your busy schedule, we offer this meeting face-to-face, Zoom, and as a “recorded” event that you can watch when you are available.
NMSEF will be held at Millersville University on March 13, 2025. We meet at 8:00 am for a light continental breakfast and meeting with your fellow category judges. Please see below for parking and entrance directions. Between that initial meeting and noon, you will be able to review student abstracts and projects on the floor and enjoy a lunch provided by NMSEF (a sample Timeline is also provided below). At noon, the students will be on the floor for interviews at their projects. By 4:00 your results will be tabulated and your role is finished. You are welcome to stay for the exciting Awards Ceremony later that evening. Below you will find a link to the rubric we provide to all judges and the various clearances required by Millersville University.
Both Millersville University and the North Museum require PA Clearances for volunteers to participate in this event because judges have direct contact with students. Luckily, the Volunteer PA Clearances are good for five years and they are free (one set every five years). Below are the links and email addresses you can use to acquire and then send along the required PA Clearances for volunteers. If your PA Clearances are within the five-year limit and you were a judge with us last year, we have your clearances on file. If not, please complete these as soon as possible.
Clearances (required by Millersville University and North Museum).
- Child Abuse Clearance: https://www.compass.state.pa.us/cwis/public/home
- Criminal Background: https://epatch.pa.gov/home
- Send PDF or photo of clearances to: kwilson@northmuseum.org
Thank you again for your commitment to the STEM community and young students that are vital to our future.
All the best,
NMSEF Team
